We believe that a job well done deserves a fair reward.
When providing legal services, we most often use 3 basic methods of remuneration: time-based fee, fixed remuneration, and success fee. Upon agreement with the client, we can also work to combine some of these methods, or possibly discuss remuneration in a different manner altogether if it makes sense for both parties.
We always agree on the specific method of remuneration with the client in advance.
TIME-BASED FEE
The total fee for our office is determined by multiplying the agreed hourly rate by the number of hours spent providing the agreed legal service.
Our goal is maximum fairness and respect for the client's needs. Primarily, we work with clients on a graduated hourly rate basis, taking into account the seniority of the staff members of our office working on the client's case. However, we also offer clients the option to choose a uniform hourly rate, where, regardless of whether our legal trainee, lawyer, or managing partner works on the case, the hourly rate for the client remains unchanged and stays equally favorable.
The quality of work and client satisfaction are essential. Whether we agree on a graduated or uniform rate, we always take into account the individuality of each client and case, such as the complexity of the case, provision of services in a foreign language, speed requirements, and so on.
We bill our time in increments of each started quarter hour, with no minimum number of hours worked. If we spend 15 minutes on a matter, the client is charged only for those 15 minutes.
Only those employees whose seniority and experience match the needs of the case will work on our clients' matters. Even if the case does not require the direct involvement of the managing partner of our office, the quality of work remains at the highest level. We adhere strictly to the principle of the "four-eyes" rule in our work. Client deliverables are always cross-checked by the most experienced lawyers in our office.
We generally issue invoices on a monthly basis. In such cases, at the beginning of the following month, we send each client a detailed description of the activities in the form of a so-called timesheet. From this, the client can clearly see what work has been done, for how long, and at what cost. After the timesheet is approved, we issue the invoice.
FIXED REMUNERATION
The fee is determined as a fixed amount for handling the case, regardless of the time requirements or the possible time-consuming nature and complexity of the legal service provided. The client thus knows in advance how much they will pay for our services.
SUCCESS FEE
When using the pay-for-success calculation, the client pays depending on how well their case goes, not for the total time we spend solving it. In such a case, our remuneration is usually determined as a percentage of the value of the case. We always negotiate success criteria and the specific percentage of our remuneration with clients at the very beginning of cooperation in order to be as transparent as possible.
COMBINATION OF REMUNERATION METHODS
If, in a specific case, it makes sense for both parties, we are ready to combine several methods of remuneration. Our clients quite often use a combination of fixed remuneration and remuneration based on success. In such cases, our remuneration is determined in such a way that the client pays a reduced fixed payment (compared to the standard fixed remuneration) and, in the event of success of his case, pays a pre-agreed success fee. Otherwise, nothing will be paid beyond the fixed payment.
WHAT IF FOR SOME REASON WE CAN'T AGREE ON A PAYMENT METHOD IN ADVANCE?
If the fee is not agreed upon between the client and the attorney, the amount of the fee is governed by the provisions of Ministry of Justice Decree No. 177/1996 Coll., on attorneys’ fees and attorneys’ compensation for the provision of legal services (attorney tariff), as amended.
REIMBURSEMENT OF CASH EXPENSES
Our office is also entitled to reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses purposefully incurred in connection with the provision of legal services, in particular for court and other fees, travel expenses, postage, telecommunications fees, expert opinions and professional statements, translations, transcripts, and photocopies. Court and other fees are paid by the client, our office pays them and subsequently re-invoices them only after prior written agreement with the client.
VAT
We are VAT payers. For each amount that is subject to the levy, we also charge VAT, which currently amounts to 21%.
